How can I use text sets in my classroom?

Text sets in the CommonLit Library group texts by relevant topic and are a great jumping-off point for student research projects, studying literary movements, or helping students build background knowledge on a variety of subjects. They can also be used to differentiate by text complexity for students reading across the same topic.

Once you find an interesting and relevant topic for your class, consider trying the following:

  • Select one or more texts to provide background knowledge on a given subject.
  • Group texts within a set for more in-depth study of a topic.
  • Identify texts on the same topic with varying levels of complexity to differentiate student assignments.
