Is there a rubric for scoring Text Library and Target Lesson Short Response Questions?
Unlike CommonLit 360, which is a Tier 1 curriculum, CommonLit Text Library texts and Target Lessons may be used in a variety of contexts and for a variety of purposes. As such, CommonLit does not provide scoring guidance for these assessment questions. You should consider their context and purpose when deciding how to score these questions.
Each question on a CommonLit assignment is worth the same number of points — including multiple-choice and short-answer questions — for a total score of 100 points. For more information, see: How does the short answer grading scale work?
For teachers looking for more built-in structure and guidance around formative assessment, CommonLit 360, our full-year ELA curriculum for grades 6–12, provides scoring guidance, sample responses, and a structured curriculum framework.
