Why didn't my assignment post to Google Classroom?
If you shared your assignment to Google Classroom and it has not appeared, here's what may have happened:
- Is the start date and time in the future?
- If the assignment has a start date or time in the future, CommonLit will wait to post it to Google Classroom until the scheduled date and time. You will see the assignment appear in Google Classroom on its start date and time.
- Has the start date and time already arrived?
- If the start date is today or the scheduled time has passed, and the due date has not yet passed, you may have a stale authentication token that is preventing CommonLit from posting to Google Classroom on your behalf. To remedy this, go to your Manage Classes page and click the Reauthorize Google Classroom button.
- Has the due date passed?
- Google will reject any attempts to create an assignment with a due date in the past. If the assignment failed to post before the due date passed, CommonLit will retry posting for 1 week, but if the CommonLit due date has passed, CommonLit will not be able to post to Google. You can remedy this by updating the due date in CommonLit. For more information on how to do so, see: How can I edit an assignment?
- Did you or a co-teacher delete the assignment in Google Classroom?
- You should be able to see deleted assignments in Google Classroom. CommonLit will try to unlink assignments from Google Classroom as soon as they've been deleted in Google Classroom, though this requires an update by a student or teacher to the assignment in CommonLit. If you deleted a CommonLit assignment in Google Classroom, see if you can repost it to Google by reopening the Share Assignment window.
- If you cannot repost from the Share Assignment window because the assignment has "already been posted to Google Classroom," you can repost it by:
- Deleting it from CommonLit and creating it again (only recommended if students have not begun)
- Emailing help@commonlit.org and asking the Support Team to unlink the assignment from Google (recommended if students have begun the assignment)
