Why am I getting the message "You are trying to connect to a second Google account" when I try to import or sync a class?

"You are already connected to Google Classroom with a different email account. Please disconnect from this Google user on your My Account page to connect to a new account."

A CommonLit account can only be connected to one Google Classroom account. If you receive the above message, this means that you are trying to connect to a Google Account that is different from the Google Account already associated with your CommonLit account. This is most common for teachers with two school-issued email addresses, or whose school recently switched email domains.

Most likely, in a previous school year, you connected to Google Account A. Now, in a new semester or year, when CommonLit asks you to reauthenticate with Google, you are trying to connect to Google Account B. Since Google Account A is already connected to your CommonLit account, CommonLit cannot connect you to Google Account B.

If you need to connect to a different Google account than you have in the past, you will need to disconnect one Google account to connect to another from your My Account page. This will disconnect any classes imported under Google account A from Google Classroom. You will only be able to connect to classes that are imported under Google Account B moving forward.

Note: The email on your CommonLit account does not need to match the email on your Google Account to connect to Google Classroom. Rather, you only need to connect to your Google account once, but once you do, you must disconnect your previous account to match to a different one.
