Is CommonLit integrated with Google Classroom?

Yes, CommonLit is integrated with Google Classroom. You can import your Google Classroom classes and student rosters into CommonLit, post assignments straight to your Google Classroom stream from CommonLit, and export scores to your Google Classroom grade book.

To access the integration, you must first connect your account to Google Classroom and import your classes and students.

Connecting your Account to Google Classroom

There are two ways to connect your CommonLit acccount to Google Classroom.

Importing Newly Added Students Later

If you add more students to your Google Classroom classes later and want those students to appear in your connected CommonLit class, just click on the Sync button that appears to the right of the class name on your Manage Classes page:

Refresh the page after about a minute to see your updated roster.

Please note: Syncing a class will add new students, but syncing will not remove students. Students must be removed manually from Google Classroom classes. For more information, see the FAQ: How can I remove a student from my class?

Posting Assignments and Exporting Scores to Google Classroom

After you create an assignment, a window will pop up giving you the option to post your assignment and scores, or just the assignment, to your Google Classroom stream.

Post Assignment and Scores to Google Classroom will create an assignment in your stream, update to show students' assignment statuses, and export grades to Google Classroom.

Post Assignment to Google Classroom will create an assignment in your stream and update with students' assignment statuses, but will not show your students their scores on CommonLit.

You'll be given the opportunity to edit your post before sharing it, including editing how many points the assignment will be worth in your Google Classroom grade book. CommonLit will be sure to include a link on it that sends your students directly from Google Classroom to their CommonLit assignment.

You can also leave the Share window and reopen it later from the Assignments page or the Assignment Dashboard by clicking the Share button:

If you decide later that you do want to export grades to your Google Classroom grade book, you can turn on this setting from your Assignment Dashboard. CommonLit will prompt you to share the assignment on Google if you haven't yet to set up the export.
