Usernames are generated at account creation by CommonLit to ensure they are unique. If a student has a name change, the student or teacher can edit the first and last name on the account from the student's My Account page or the teacher's Manage Students page. If the student is controlled by a third-party integration, a sync should update the student's name to match data from the integration.
Once the student's name is up to date in CommonLit, please reach out to our staff to request a username regeneration (if you haven't done so yet).
A CommonLit support agent will generate a new, unique username for the student that uses the student's new name. Our agents are also happy to help you update the student's first or last name if you require assistance.
