If your district has chosen to purchase Assessment Series in CommonLit School Essentials Pro, you will not have access to the free reading assessment on CommonLit.org. Instead, you’ll be able to collect baseline data through the first assessment in the Assessment Series. You’ll also have access to a Mid-Year and a Post-Assessment to help you track students’ reading growth throughout the reading year.
The CommonLit Free Reading Assessment can be scheduled for the school year beginning August 1.
You can schedule a free reading assessment for grades 3-12. To do so, visit our Library and search "free reading assessment." You can preview a sample assessment before scheduling. Then click "Schedule Assessment." This will take you to the scheduling page.
From here, you can schedule a free reading assessment for one class or multiple classes at a time. Choose the class(es) for which you wish to schedule the assessment, the class' grade level (NOT reading level), and the test date. If you have a mixed-grade class, choose "Assign by student grade level" to give students different grade levels in the same class.
If you choose a test date in the future, your students will not see or be able to complete their assessment until the test date arrives.
What if my class has students at different grade levels?
It is common, especially in high schools, to have students of multiple grade levels in one class. If your class has students in multiple grade levels, under Choose Assessment, you should choose "Assign by student grade level." This will give 9th graders the 9th-grade assessment, the 10th graders the 10th-grade assessment, and so on.
