CommonLit offers units for grades 3-12 to facilitate 2-4 weeks of aligned lesson plans around an essential question or inquiry topic. You can browse CommonLit's 360 units here.
It is not currently possible to assign an entire unit at once on CommonLit. Instead, you will need to assign all of the texts within a unit individually.
To do so, click on the CommonLit 360 Curriculum tile from your Home page > select the grade level you want to view units for > select a unit. From there, click "Lessons & Materials," and scroll down to find the lesson you want to assign. Click "Show More" for the lesson, and then select the "Preview or Assign" button.
Once you've done that, you will be taken to the Student Assignment Preview Page, and from there you can click on the teal "Assign" button at the top of the page. The Create an Assignment window will pop out on the left, and you can choose which class(es) you want to assign the lesson to, whether you want to turn on/off Reading Modalities or In-Text Questions, select assessment options, choose a start and due date, and customize the directions.
Please note: Only Reading Lessons, Writing Lessons, and Vocabulary Quizzes are digitally assignable. The remaining assignment types, such as Related Media Lessons, Vocabulary Activities, Discussion Lessons, Grammar and Usage Activities, and Culminating Tasks, are not currently digitally assignable within CommonLit.
If you wish to assign any of these assignments to your students, you can access the Google Docs or Google Slides associated with those lessons by clicking "Show More" on the Lessons & Materials page. You'll then need to select the document or slides that you would like to see, and then click the "Make a Copy" button on the next page. You can then share it with students in an LMS, such as Google Classroom or Canvas, or via email.
