How do I change the name of a Clever or ClassLink class to update the display name in CommonLit?

You can nickname your Clever or ClassLink* classes in CommonLit to update the name that is displayed for that class throughout your account as long as you are the primary teacher on the class. This can be helpful the class names from Clever or ClassLink are lengthy or very similar and hard to distinguish.

Additionally, if your district shares classes for multiple marking periods at the same time, we recommend nicknaming your classes to indicate which marking period they belong you. For example, if a class is for the first semester, you can add "S1" or "Fall" to the name of the class.

*The ClassLink integration is available for School Essentials PRO and PRO Plus customers.

  1. Click My Classes (the teacher) in the menu on the left
  2. Choose the Manage Classes tab
  3. Click Options for the class you'd like to update
  4. Select Class Nickname. In the window that appears, edit the Class Nickname field.
  5. Click Update to see that nickname throughout the site, such as on your Assignments and Student Performance pages

Note: The original class name will be saved in CommonLit's database for data integrity purposes. You can check the original name at any time by going to the Manage Classes page and clicking Options > Class Info. You will see the original name of the class where it says "Class Name."
