Can Assessment Series test be modified?
Modifications are not permitted on Assessment Series tests.
Modifying the content of a test may include changing the passages, questions, or answer options (e.g., eliminating an incorrect answer option). Any modifications to test content fundamentally alter what a test measures. Students who require modifications on standardized tests should not be assigned Assessment Series tests.
Our tests are psychometrically validated through careful design and field-testing. Changing Assessment Series content will lead to scores that are invalid and inaccurate indications of students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additionally, such scores will not be comparable with other students’ scores. For these reasons, modifying test content in any way is not permitted for CommonLit assessments.
For information about test accommodations, which change the way a test is administered without changing test content, please refer to this FAQ. If you have questions about a student’s IEP or 504 plan, please contact your building and/or district leadership.
