How can teachers and students view Unit Skills Assessment data?
This article is intended only for CommonLit School Essentials PRO Plus customers and partners.
Both teachers and students can view Unit Skills Assessment (USA) data once scores have been released. This article covers where teachers can find class and student data, and how students can view their own scores.
Viewing data as a teacher
To view USA data for your class:
- Click My Classes in the menu on the left.
- Under your Assignments view, click the name of the assessment to open the Assessment Dashboard.
You'll land on the Overview page, where you can see each student's assessment status (such as in-progress or complete). You can also take certain actions here, like force submitting or locking an assessment.
To see your class data and results, click the Assessment Report tab at the top. Here you'll find:
- An Overall Class Data section with class-level results like class average, multiple choice % correct, short answer % correct, scores breakdown, and highest and lowest scores
- A standards performance chart showing students' total scores and their scores on the standards covered in the assessment
- An item analysis chart showing individual item-level performance for all students

To download this data, click Download report at the top of the Assessment Results section. This downloads an .xlsx spreadsheet that includes total scores, standards scores, and item-level scores.

Why is multiple choice data showing as N/A?
If student scores are showing as N/A on these charts, it's usually because the short-response answers still need to be graded. Multiple choice scores won't appear on the charts until the short response has been graded.
To grade short responses, click the Grading tab at the top of the Assessment Report.
Viewing data as a student
Students can view their scores for a Unit Skills Assessment once you have released their scores.
To view their data, students can click My Performance in the menu on the left. From there, they'll see their Overall Score, Multiple Choice % Correct, and Short Answer Average (0-4).

If a student completed a short-answer question for which you provided written feedback, they can view their response and feedback by clicking View Responses under their Short Answer Average.

If your class is imported from Canvas or Google Classroom, the Overall Score will be visible on the student's grades page after scores have been released on CommonLit.
