How can I exempt students from an assignment?
Teachers can exempt students from an assignment they have created as long as the student has not submitted the assignment. Creating class-wide assignments and exempting students you don't want to take that assignment is a great way to differentiate instruction while storing all your class data in one place. This method will also allow you to add students back to the assignment if you want them to complete the assignment in the future.
To exempt students from a Library Lesson:
- Go to the Assignment Report. You can get there from your Assignments page by clicking on the graph icon for that assignment. You can also get there from the assignment's Dashboard by clicking the Assignment Report tab at the top.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Assignment Report to the Incomplete Assignments section.
- Use the checkboxes to select the students you want to exempt and click the teal "Exempt From Assignment" button.
- Change your mind? To add these students back to the assignment later, check the box next to a student's name in the Exempted from Assignment list. Then click the teal "Add To Assignment" button.
To exempt students from a Target Lesson or 360 Lesson:
- Go to the Assignment Report. You can get there from your Assignments page by clicking on the graph icon for that assignment. You can also get there from the assignment's Dashboard by clicking the Assignment Report tab at the top.
- Scroll down to the Overall Scores table and uncheck "Only show submitted students."
- Find the student you wish to exempt, click the drop down arrow next to "Not Started" or In Progress" in the Total Scores column, and select "Exempt." (Note: At least one student has to have submitted the assignment in order for teachers to exempt students.)
- Click the teal Exempt Student button in the window that pops up.
- Change your mind? Click the drop down arrow in the Total Scores column for that student and select "Reassign student." Then click the teal "Add To Assignment" button and select the teal "Reassign Student" button in the window that pops up.
