How do I assign a lesson to a single student or small group of students?
There are two ways to create an individual or small group assignment.
Option 1: When creating an assignment, under Assign to, choose "Individual Students" and use the drop down to manually add each student you wish to assign the lesson to. This assignment will be listed on your Assignments page under Individual and Small Group Assignments. Please note: once you have created an individual or small group assignment, you will not be able to add more students to the assignment. If you decide you would like to assign the lesson to additional students, you will need to create a new individual or small group assignment.
Option 2: Create a class-wide assignment as usual and then either exempt the students who should not take it from the Assignment Report or lock the assignment for all students and then unlock it for those who should take the assignment on the Assignment Dashboard.
To exempt the students who should not take the assignment, you can navigate to the Assignment Dashboard by clicking on My Classes > the name of the assignment. Then, click Exempt under Actions for any student who does not need to complete the assignment.
To lock the assignment for all students and then unlock it for those who should take it, you can navigate to the Assignment Dashboard by clicking on My Classes > Assignments > Dashboard (for the particular assignment). Click Lock All, and then click Unlock next to the students who should take the assignment.
The benefits of creating a class-wide assignment and exempting students include the ability to assign the text to additional students later, keeping your assignment better organized, and ensuring the assignments appear on your Class Performance pages.
