How do I share a CommonLit assignment?

There are three ways teachers can share an assignment:

  1. Use our Google Classroom integration
  2. Copy our assignment link and sending it to students
  3. Use our Canvas integration (for paid partners)

Sharing an Assignment Using Google Classroom

When you create an assignment in CommonLit for a class imported from Google Classroom, CommonLit will open up a Share Assignment window with the options to Post Assignment and Scores to Google Classroom or Post Assignment to Google Classroom. If you close this window, you can reopen it by clicking the Share icon in the top-right corner of the Assignment at any time.

When you share an assignment to Google Classroom, CommonLit automatically embeds the assignment link to your Google Classroom. Learn more about sharing assignments to Google Classroom here: Can I post assignments to Google Classroom?

Sharing an Assignment by Copying a Link

When you create an assignment in CommonLit, a Share Assignment window that includes a link to each assignment you have created will appear. Every assignment for each class or small group has its own unique assignment link. If you create an assignment for multiple classes, there will be multiple unique assignment links. Be sure to share the correct assignment link with students through your LMS, email, or however else you are sharing the assignment.

Sharing an Assignment Using Canvas

To share an assignment on Canvas, log into your Canvas instance, create an assignment, and set the Submission Type to External Tool. Then, select CommonLit.

From there, follow the prompts to find the assignment you would like to link on CommonLit. Once you have filled in the requested information, click Save & Publish.
