What types of assessments does CommonLit offer?

If your district has chosen to purchase Assessment Series in CommonLit School Essentials PRO or School Essentials PRO Plus, you will not have access to the Free Reading Assessment. If you are a School Essentials PRO school, you will have access to CommonLit's Assessment Series benchmarks. If you are in a School Essentials PRO Plus school, you will will have access to CommonLit's Assessment Series benchmarks as well as the Unit Skills Assessments for CommonLit 360. You’ll be able to collect baseline data through the first assessment in the Assessment Series. You’ll also have access to a Mid-Year and a Post-Assessment to help you track students’ reading growth throughout the reading year.

There are a few different assessments CommonLit offers. For all users, CommonLit offers a free diagnostic called the Free Reading Assessment. This assessment provides a snapshot of student performance at the beginning of the year. You can learn more about the Free Reading Assessment here.

Every CommonLit Library Lesson and Target Lesson includes formative assessment questions that are used to measure students' progress throughout the year. Teachers can aggregate their formative data on the Student Performance pages.

Furthermore, within CommonLit 360 units, most lessons include formative assessment questions to track student progress throughout the unit. These units also include a summative assessment in the form of the Culminating Task for each unit.

Finally, CommonLit also provides two Unit Skills Assessments for CommonLit 360 units as part of its School Essentials PRO Plus package. These formative assessments can be used flexibly to track student achievement on the focus standards for the unit. For more information, review the FAQs here.
