How can a co-teacher view an individual/small-group assignment?

You can add and manage the co-teachers who have access to your Individual/Small Group Assignments. A co-teacher can do anything to the assignment except delete it or add or edit its co-teachers.

Co-teachers on a class do not automatically see Individual/Small Group Assignments for students in the classes you co-teach. Instead, the primary teacher controls which co-teachers have access, directly from the create and edit Individual/Small Group Assignment windows.

An Individual/Small Group Assignment is owned by whoever creates it, even if that person is normally a secondary teacher of the class the students are in. Ownership is tied to faculty memberships in a school, rather than to classes.

Adding co-teachers when creating an assignment

When creating an Individual/Small Group Assignment, a new field will appear that lets you add a co-teacher to the list.

Note: The co-teachers you can choose from are only those you share at least one class with.

Adding or removing co-teachers later

After you create an assignment, you can add or remove co-teachers from the Edit Assignment window. To get there:

  1. Navigate to your Assignments page.
  2. Select Small Group Assignments under class filters at the top.
  3. Locate the assignment and click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) menu next to it.
  4. Click Edit.

You can also reach the Edit option from the assignment's dashboard. At the bottom of the Edit Assignment window, you will see the option to add or remove co-teachers.

When a co-teacher leaves your class

If a co-teacher leaves or is removed from your class and you no longer share any classes, they will still be shared on Individual/Small Group Assignments. You can remove them using the Edit Assignment window. If you no longer share any classes, you will not be able to add them back.

When a co-teacher or you change schools

If a co-teacher leaves your school, CommonLit will remove their access to any Individual/Small Group Assignments you've shared with them.

If you move schools, you will lose access to all Individual/Small Group Assignments at your former school. If any of them have co-teachers still in that school, CommonLit will transfer ownership of those assignments to one of the remaining co-teachers.
