Can students hear text and questions read aloud?

Students can hear text and questions read aloud on all CommonLit assignments.

To use the Read Aloud feature, have students log into CommonLit > go to their assignment > and then click the Read Aloud button to open an audio player for the text.

Students can click play to hear the text read from the beginning, or click the speaker icon next to a paragraph to resume from where they last left off during a previous session. They can click the speaker icon next to any paragraph, line, or question to hear that part of the text read aloud. They can pause or stop read aloud at any time, and they can click the gear icon to adjust the speed of the text being read aloud.

CommonLit does not currently support a setting to disable Read Aloud for a class or for particular students. Every student assignment on CommonLit currently has Read Aloud functionality.
