Google Classroom: Can I post CommonLit assignments to my stream?
You can post the assignment to Google Classroom as long as it’s created in a class imported from Google Classroom and your assignment is eligible to be shared.
Please note: Most digital assignments (Texts, Target Lessons, and 360 Lessons) can be shared to Google Classroom. On-paper assignments cannot be shared to Google Classroom since these are completed offline.
On your Manage Classes page, classes imported from Google Classroom will show a Google Classroom icon with a Sync button. If you see the Sync option for a class, that class is imported from Google Classroom.
Also, you can tell if a class is imported from Google Classroom by looking for the Google Classroom logo next to its name when you’re creating an assignment and selecting which classes to assign it to.
Posting an assignment to Google Classroom
After you create an assignment, you will see a window with the options to post your assignment and scores, or just the assignment, to your Google Classroom stream.
Post Assignment and Scores to Google Classroom will create an assignment in your stream, update to show students' assignment statuses, and export grades to Google Classroom.
Post Assignment to Google Classroom will create an assignment in your stream and update with students' assignment statuses, but will not show you or students their scores on CommonLit.
Copy the link for the assignment and post it to any Google Classroom stream of your choosing if you didn't import your class with Google Classroom. In this case, you cannot post scores to your grade book.
You'll be given the opportunity to edit your post before sharing it, including the ability to customize the points value of the assignment in Google. CommonLit will always include a link that sends your students directly from Google Classroom to their CommonLit assignment.
If your assignment has a start date/time in the future, CommonLit will wait to post it to Google Classroom until the start date and time have arrived. If you haven't selected a start time, the start time will default to 12:00 AM in your time zone.
You can also leave the Share window and reopen it later from the Assignments page or the Assignment Dashboard by clicking the Share button:
If you decide later that you do want to export grades to your Google Classroom grade book, you can turn on this setting from your Assignment Dashboard. CommonLit will prompt you to share the assignment on Google, if you haven't yet, to allow this grade book sharing.
