How do I grade and view data for a CommonLit 360 lesson?

Grading Short Response Questions within a CommonLit 360 Lesson

When assigning a CommonLit 360 Lesson, most questions will automatically be graded for you. You will only need to grade written response assessment questions. To grade these questions, go to your Assignments page and look for lessons with grading notifications on them. Once you find the correct lesson, click the Go to Grading button. 

This will bring you to the Grading Page where you can view the questions with student responses that require grading. To grade a student, select the score from the rubric and add any feedback. Then click Save & Next to move on to the next student. 

Please note: some parts might have multiple short response questions to grade. If multiple questions need grading, you will see them called out at the top of the Grading page. Make sure you grade every question within a lesson.

If you would like to refer to the assigned reading while grading, click the Text bar to the left of student responses to expand the text.

Additionally, you have the option to make responses anonymous by clicking the Hide Names toggle below the Question(s) to Grade. This allows for anonymous grading or for sharing model responses with the class. 

Viewing Data for During Reading Questions

Unlike traditional CommonLit assignments, CommonLit 360 Lessons are broken down into parts. Most parts are automatically graded for you. Questions that do not need grading include: During Reading questions (Practice Writing questions, Poll questions, Think and Share questions) and multiple-choice assessment questions. 

All of this data can be found on the Assignment Report. The Assignment Report contains all data from student submissions for CommonLit 360 Lessons. You will be able to find this data by clicking on Assignment Report at the top of the Grading Page. 

On the Assignment Report, you can see the Overall Scores. Each part that needs grading will say "Needs Grading" in red for each student's written response. You can click this link to be brought back to the Grading Page to grade short responses.

If students completed a Find Evidence question during reading, you will be able to see the evidence students highlighted. You will also see the number of highlights completed.

If you would like to view student annotations that were made as students completed the lesson, click the Student Annotations link on the upper left-hand part of the screen when viewing the Assignment Report or Grading page.
