How can I use my Clever or ClassLink rostered classes with CommonLit's Canvas integration?

This article is intended only for customers and partners using Canvas. Our Canvas integration is available for schools and districts who purchase a School Essentials PRO package.

The CommonLit Canvas integration uses Assignments in Canvas to seamlessly link lessons and assessments from CommonLit to your schools' Canvas instance.

While you can import classes from Canvas directly, CommonLit has also made it possible to use classes rostered from Clever and ClassLink to link assignments from Canvas. ClassLink and Clever classes are updated automatically each time your district's rostering service syncs with CommonLit, so there is no need for you to manually sync your classes each time there is a change to your rosters.

To use the Canvas integration alongside your Clever or ClassLink rostered classes, you will want to be sure to select the correct class when you begin the linking process for an assignment in Canvas.

Since you are planning to use your ClassLink or Clever rostered class, you can dismiss the option to import your class from Canvas by clicking the "X" icon next to the Canvas class:

Once you click the "X," CommonLit will no longer recommend that you import your Canvas class at the top of this screen.

In the screenshot below, you can see the ClassLink rostered class for the sample teacher to select:

Now that you have selected your Clever or ClassLink connected Class, you can begin linking CommonLit assignments in Canvas.
